Acrylic on canvas
24"H x 30"W x 1.5"D
This painting started with a dream I couldn’t shake—black birds hatching inside volcanoes (yes, my subconscious is a wild place!). I sketched it quickly before it slipped away, and the phrase “birth of birds” just stuck with me. From a fiery abstract background of yellows, oranges, and my beloved quinacridone magenta, the crows emerged in layered blacks, blues, and violets, grounded by bold blooms from my current floral explorations. Metallic glazes, visible charcoal lines, and restless strokes of ink and oil pastel gave it the same charged, uneasy energy I felt in the dream. Are they safe? Happy? Hungry? I’ll let you decide—but for me, this piece was a way of pulling that dream out of the dark and into vivid, joyful color.
